Welcome To Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical engineering is an engineering discipline that combines engineering physics and mathematics principles with materials science to design, analyze, manufacture, and maintain mechanical systems. It is one of the oldest and broadest of the engineering disciplines.

Profile

Mechanical Engineering Department started with inception of the college in 2010, to provide world-class under-graduate and graduate engineering education. The curriculum includes the courses like Thermodynamics, Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, Strength of Materials, and Heat Transfer Manufacturing, Mechanical and Thermal Design, Finite Element Analysis, And System Dynamics. Students acquire knowledge through various engineering electives with advanced topics including, fracture mechanics, composite materials, combustion, internal combustion engines, mechatronics, and mechanism design. The structure of the program includes laboratory experiments with respect to the academic syllabus, in which students go through a live experience with advanced hardware, software, and experimental techniques. The laboratory experience reinforces content presented in courses and provides students with an opportunity to involve themselves individually with the support of faculty and technical support staff. The Department started Masters programme (Master of Technology) in "Engineering Analysis and Design" in the year 2012 which is another step in climbing the ladder .Conferences, Workshops, Seminars and Industrial visits are part of the program which happens periodically in enhancing the knowledge of the students with an exposure to industrial environment. The Department has also proved its capabilities by guiding students with live projects which are also sponsored by Institution of Engineers.

M.Tech., MISTE., MIE., Ph.D

On behalf of our faculty members, I welcome you for a fun and exciting learning journey. The department of Mechanical Engineering was started in the year 2010 and made remarkable achievements during this journey. We have M Tech program in "Engineering Analysis and Design" started in the year 2012. The division is currently having 16 faculty member and about 300 students. From students corner, our department plays an important role to develop new knowledge in the field of mechanical engineering as well as to nurture tomorrow?s industrial leaders. At the undergraduate level, we emphasis the students on teaching- learning process. We inform them, the importance of branch, and its usefulness in industry. We also emphasis on research activity during their course and publish research papers in International journal/ conferences.

Our research activities cover almost all aspects of Mechanical Engineering, for examples, Thermal, Design, Manufacturing and Management. Our faculty have published about 20 papers in repute International journals and of about 50 papers in International/National conference. Our students have published about 10 papers in International/National conference. We received Three grants for projects in the area of Thermal and Manufacturing. We encourage our students to propose a student project from various agencies and received 3 projects of the same. Do visit our divisional website for more details and feel free to approach our faculty members for matters related to teaching and research.

Academic programs offered:

UG Program:

Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) in Mechanical Engineering with approved intake of 60 students and a lateral entry of 20% from 2nd year.

PG Program:

M.Tech Programme in Machine Design with approved intake of 18 students

RESEARCH PROGRAM:

Ph.D

Course Opportunities

  • Mechanical engineers will be found in virtually any manufacturing industry. Increasingly, mechanical engineers are needed in the environmental and bio-medical fields. Indeed, virtually every product or service in modern life has probably been touched in some way by a mechanical engineer.

  • The Central and State Governments are recruiting Mechanical Engineers in large numbers, particularly in Defense, Railways, Military, and Indian Engineering Services. Nearly 12% of the central budget is reserved for military purpose. This opens up avenues for Mechanical Engineers to join DRDO, HAL, NAL and other organizations of national importance for a lucrative career and job satisfaction.

  • The government also encourages young researchers in mechanical field to develop alternate energy sources.

  • Several opportunities are available in industry for Mechanical Engineers at various functional areas viz., production, quality, design, and marketing.

  • Mechanical Engineers are also acceptable in emerging fields like Robotics, MEMS, Mechatronics, and Nano materials.

Vision

  • To groom incumbents to compete with their professional peers in mechanical engineering that brings recognition

Mission

  • To impart sound fundamentals in mechanical engineering
  • To expose students to new frontiers
  • To achieve engineering excellence through experiential learning and team work.

PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEOs)

PEO1: To produce graduates who would have developed a strong background in basic science and mathematics and ability to use these tools in Mechanical Engineering.

PEO2: To prepare graduates who have the ability to demonstrate technical competence in their fields of Mechanical Engineering and develop solutions to the problems.

PEO3: To equip graduates to function effectively in a multi-disciplinary environment individually, within a global, societal, and environmental context.

PROGRAM SPECIFIC OUTCOMES (PSOs)

It is expected that a student in mechanical engineering will possess an:

PSO1: Ability to apply concept of mechanical engineering to design a system, a component or a process/system to address a real world challenges

PSO2: Ability to develop effective communication, team work, entrepreneurial and computational skills

PROGRAM OUTCOMES (POs)

Engineering Graduates will be able to:

  • Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  • Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  • Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  • Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  • Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
  • The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
  • Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
  • Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
  • Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.
  • Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one?s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.
  • Life-long learning: Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.

Research and Development

Research and development is the first stage for the overall development of any organization. Basically R & D work is carried out without any expectations of making profit, instead directed towards achieving awards, recognitions, patents, copy rights, etc. KSSEM Mechanical Engineering R &D centre is equipped with highly qualified and experienced supervisors with the computing and testing facilities for the research scholars to carry out their research.
