The National Service Scheme (NSS) is an Indian government-sponsored public service program conducted by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. Popularly known as NSS, the scheme was launched in Gandhiji's Centenary year in 1969. Aimed at developing student's personality through community service, NSS is a voluntary association of young people in Colleges, Universities and at +2 level working for a campus-community (esp. Villages) linkage.
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of Government of India, which fall under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. It provides opportunity to the student youth of India to take part in various government led community service activities & programmes. The cardinal principle of the NSS programme is that it is organized by the students themselves, and both students and teachers through their combined participation in community service, get a sense of involvement in the tasks of nation building. The sole aim of the NSS is to provide hands on experience to young students in delivering community service. NSS was started in the year 1969 at the national level, since then the number of students strength has been increasing from 40,000 to over 3.8 million and is still continuing to increase.
K.S. School of Engineering and Management was permitted to involve in the social service activities through its N.S.S wing. The official permission letter to start a NSS wing was received on 20th of October 2017 and it was officially launched on 2nd November 2017. The current student strength of our NSS wing is 100 volunteers.
The Motto of NSS "Not Me But You", reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for self-less service. NSS helps the students development & appreciation to other person's point of view and also show consideration towards other living beings. The philosophy of the NSS is a good doctrine in this motto, which underlines on the belief that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society as a whole and therefore, the NSS volunteers shall strive for the well-being of the society.
